Summer Reading for Rising Seventh Graders
“A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies, said Jojen. The man who never reads lives only one.”
― George R.R. Martin, A Dance with Dragons
Dear Seventh Graders and Parents/Guardians:
The English Language Arts Department wishes you all a wonderful summer! While you are enjoying the summer, be sure to complete your summer reading project.
This year, all rising 7th graders will read the novel by William Kamkwamba and Bryan Mealer. In addition, they will select another book from a list of options. The final step will be to complete an assignment called a 1-pager. The due date for the project is Tuesday, September 3rd.
Step 1: Read The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind
Step 2: Select a book from the following list:
All these books are available at Barnes and Noble, Amazon.com, or at most public libraries.
DUE DATE
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 3rd
Step 3: A one-pager is a way of responding to a piece or pieces of texts on a single sheet of paper. It represents your own written and graphic interpretation of what you have read. It may be very literal (just based on the facts or information in the pieces) or it may be a symbolic representation of the pieces. It helps you visualize what you are reading.
